And as he looked and wondered, a Voice said to him, “Take your parents by the hand and lead them therein. For here they will rest until your journey is complete.”
Rish saw that it was Houndface that spoke and he obeyed. And within the cottage he found two beds prepared on which he laid the glep-herder and his wife. Then at Houndface’s beckoning he turned and followed him out into the twilight plain.
Then Houndface lifted his right hand and pointed to the skies. “What do you see, my son?”
And when Rish looked, he saw the likeness of a falling star descending beneath the great globe which lit the moon.
As he answered, Houndface said, “What you see is no star, my son, but the ship which carries the one who will be your companion on the quest the Stars have appointed you. Mark where it lands and go.”
And as Houndface spoke these words he vanished from Rish’s sight. And seeing he was now alone, Rish set off for the far horizon.
